HMC Polymers joins forces with national partners to organize the annual conference, highlighting the concept of Endless PP Solutions for Sustainable Living, emphasizing that PP plastic and sustainability are one and the same.

HMC Polymers Co., Ltd. or HMC Polymers   organized the HMC Polymers Conference 2024 under the concept of “Endless PP Solutions for Sustainable Living” at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Bangkok. This year, the main focus is on stepping into the 41st year with sustainability in every dimension, including the production process, innovation and technology used, the development of polypropylene plastic pellets or PP for sustainability, along with expanding cooperation with national partners for higher levels of success.

Mr. Corso Uzielli, President of HMC Polymers, said that the past 2-3 years have been a challenging time for the petrochemical business, including the PP plastic pellet business, due to the volatile economy and consumer demand that focuses on sustainability. HMC Polymers, the first and largest PP plastic pellet manufacturer and distributor in Thailand and the leading one in Southeast Asia, has adjusted its business strategy to cope with the situation and has accelerated the organization of the HMC Polymers Conference 2024 as a platform for exchanging knowledge, creating understanding, and communicating with stakeholders in all sectors, including the following issues:

  • Maintaining the standard of premium grade PP plastic pellets, both special grades (Specialty) and quality grades (Differentiated) to create differences and competitiveness.
  • Establishing a Sustainability Framework in 3 dimensions, each of which has shown tangible progress, including:

  1. Circularity:The key indicator is the success of PP plastic pellet products for sustainability, which is divided into 2 main groups according to the raw materials used in production, namely:

PP plastic pellets produced from petroleum (Fossil based), which is the original raw material for the production of PP plastic pellets, but HMC Polymers has further developed innovations for sustainability by developing the efficiency of special grade PP plastic pellets to be higher, such as PP plastic pellets that reduce the amount of plastic  but still maintain the original strength, or PP plastic pellets that have properties that support recycling , such as Mono-material PP plastic pellets that can be used to replace traditional materials made from plastic mixed with other materials, such as foil, etc.

There are 3 main types of PP plastic pellets made from renewable raw materials:

Bio-circular PP or Bio-based PP plastic pellets made from used raw materials such as used vegetable oil, etc., helps reduce carbon dioxide emissions during the production process and has properties comparable to Virgin PP or PP plastic pellets made from petroleum.

Advance recycling PP is PP plastic pellets made from various types of used plastics that go through the Pyrolysis process to be reused as raw materials for the production of new PP plastic pellets. Its properties are no different from Virgin PP.

Mechanical recycling PP is a mechanical recycling of PP plastic pellets that uses used PP plastic as raw materials, both used PP plastic from consumers (Post Consumer Recycled, PCR) or used PP plastic from discarding or not meeting the requirements during the industrial production process (Post Industrial Recycled, PIR).

This group of plastic pellets has all passed the international sustainability product standard certification, including Bio-Circular PP and Advance Recycling PP, which have been certified by ISCC PLUS from the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification Agency, and Mechanical Recycling PP, which has been certified by GRS (Global Recycled Standard), an international standard that certifies recycled products.

  1. Carbon Reduction:Projects or activities that help reduce or absorb carbon dioxide, such as Carbon Emission Baseline, Flare Minimization Project, Carbon Trading, including cooperation with government agencies, namely the Royal Forest Department, agencies under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, to create a prototype project for cooperation to increase green areas to absorb carbon dioxide in forest areas in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, etc.

  1. Connectivity:Using knowledge or using the company’s products to improve the quality of life of communities, society, and the country in various aspects, including education, the environment, quality of life, and local cultural traditions, which has been ongoing for decades.

Enhancing cooperation with business and social sector partners Over the past 2-3 years, HMC Polymers has expanded its cooperation with business partners more than in the past, both in terms of developing various grades of PP plastic pellets to meet all customer needs, etc. In terms of the social sector, we are the initiator of PP Reborn, the first platform for managing used PP plastic in Thailand, to bring it back into the production system according to the principles of a circular economy. We have received excellent support from the government, private sector, and social sectors, and are preparing to expand the platform to various locations in 2025.
