Most of popular technique for moisture determination in present are use Halogen Moisture Balance. Pharmaceutical industries or Food industries even Plastic industries also had used this technique. Measurement results from this technique are precise and accurate. It can help for products quality control, shelf-life stability or even cost saving.
We have some Tips and Hints to help when you used Halogen Moisture Balance. Which important parameter need to concern and mind for moisture analysis?
1st important thing is Drying Temperature, High temperature provide will affect to sample decomposition and the results that you get not only moisture content but also organic substant that decomposed. Recommend Drying temperature should be during 1000C – 1100C (we can use higher drying temperature but make sure your sample not decomposition)
The next 2nd is Drying Profile, Each of Drying Profile can apply to use with appropriate sample that we can get faster measurement and more accurate results. Basically have 4 Drying profiles are defaults in Halogen Moisture Balance. Mainly we use Standard Drying Profile is a key.
The 3rd parameter is Time of measurement or we can call “Switch off criteria”. Most of user have a question how long we must to spent for determine moisture. Halogen Moisture Balance had built-in balance that it can detect real time moisture content so we can set up to auto stop once moisture content had stable not change in weight 1mg within period of time. Period of time are the default that you can select, or user can own define.
Last but not least, Sample Weight are not too much or too little. It will effect to repeatability of measurement. We had recommend the Sample weight are during 5-10 g.
At the end, Sample insert on pan need to be smoothly distributed in order to complete heat absorb by sample.
