Health Through Intellectual Property: Elevating Thai Product Industry for Expanding into International Markets.

Department of Intellectual Property (DIP), in collaboration with Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has promoted intellectual property knowledge, exchanged information and integrated work between the two agencies, focusing on the developments of public health innovations and furthering the productions and exports of Thai health products. On hand to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on strengthening patent and regulatory capacity to support the development of the Thai health product industry are Ms. Nusara Kanjanakul, DIP Director-General and Dr. Surachoke Tangwiwat, FDA Secretary-General.

Ms. Nusara Kanjanakul, DIP Director-General reveals that DIP carries out intellectual property missions in all aspects, including promoting innovation, protecting and defending rights, domestically and internationally and utilizing intellectual property for commercial purposes to enhance the competitiveness of Thai businesses on the global stage. Today’s MoU signing marks a positive beginning for the collaboration between DIP and FDA, the agencies that play a crucial role in protecting public health from the consumption of health products. Health products must be of high quality and safe. This collaboration focuses on systematically integrating data and work processes between the two agencies. In this regard, DIP will support access to accurate, complete and up-to-date information, while FDA will facilitate the supervision and registration of health products. This will help Thai entrepreneurs reduce redundant processes, save time and increase the accuracy of innovation development to create a robust health innovation support system initially from the research and development, rights protection, to market expansion, both domestically and internationally.

Ms. Kanjanakul further adds, “The integration between DIP and FDA is a key mechanism for seamlessly connecting data exchange and supervision. With a coordinated data system, entrepreneurs will have faster access to services, greater investment confidence and the ability to commercialize their innovations. We are confident that this collaboration not only will drive the health product industry forward but also serve as a key mechanism for creating a transparent, fair and internationally competitive innovation ecosystem, thus, putting Thailand in the position as a regional health innovation hub. Under this collaboration, we are prepared to work with FDA to establish a key mechanism to enhance the country’s innovative potential in the health product industry, enabling it to create practical products, increase economic value and strengthen intellectual property rights. This will eventually enhance the competitiveness of the Thai health product industry, foster stability and further develop national research and innovations,” she concludes.
